A one-act opera based on a short story from 1908 of the same name by the Danish author and later Nobel Laureate Henrik Pontoppidan. It recounts how the guest, Prince Carnival, praises Pan, Eros, and joy in an attempt to awake some ardour in the respectable Dr. Høyer and his wife Emmy.
