A major new studio recording of Madama Butterfly
EMI have just released the first major studio recording of Madama Butterfly for over 40 years. It features Angela Gheorghiu in the role of Cio-Cio-San, with the young German tenor Jonas Kaufmann as her lover Pinkerton, both singing these roles for the first time. The orchestra is conducted by Antonio Pappano.
The opera was recorded in the Santa Cecilia Hall in Rome between 7-19 July 2008.
